Home to the South Carolina State House, Columbia is the capital city of South Carolina. Columbia has a rich history with many historic sites to see. Sports fans may first think of the Carolina Gamecocks when thinking of Columbia. The campus of the University of South Carolina covers around 360 acres of downtown Columbia.
With three major rivers, the Saluda River, Broad River, and Congaree River, Columbia offers a variety of outdoor activities. Many people enjoy walks, bike rides, and running at River Walk Park. Others enjoy time on the river fishing, kayaking, boating, and tubing.
Bordering the Saluda River is Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. Riverbanks offers a variety of activities for all ages, and the botanical garden will not disappoint. The Congaree National Park contains some of the tallest trees in the eastern United States.
You will enjoy a day touring this 22,200-acre park under the canopy of towering pines, giant hardwoods, and beautiful Cyprus trees.
Columbia also offers a plethora of restaurants, shopping, and activities. When visiting Columbia be sure to see the World’s Largest Fire Hydrant. The South Carolina State Museum and EdVenture are also great places to explore.
